In honor of director Oļģerts Kroders, the art object “Kroders apple tree” created by artists Aivars Vilipsōns and Ivars Miķelsons was unveiled on August 9, near the Valmiera Theater.

According to the representatives of Valmiera Theater, “Delfi” thanks to the support of patrons Boris and Ināra Teterevs in cooperation with the Kroders Foundation, the Foundation “Art Needs Space” and individual donors.

The opening event was hosted by Daile Theater actor Artūrs Skrastiņš and New Riga Theater actor Vilis Dodiņš. Both artists represent the Kroder Foundation, which was founded in 2013. One of the goals of the foundation is to take care of preserving the memory of the outstanding Latvian director. The award – “Krodera apple tree” has been presented since 2014. It is awarded for outstanding performance in the art of theater.

The opening of “Krodera apple tree” was also the end of this year’s Valmiera Summer Theater Festival.

Olgerts Kroders (1921-2012) was a Latvian director and a vivid representative of the psychological theater. He has studied in almost all Latvian theaters. For the last years of his creative life, he worked and lived in the Valmiera Theater. In 1999, he received the “Players’ Night” award for a lifetime contribution. In 2001, the director was awarded the Order of the Three Stars. 2006/2007 In the 2006-2006 season, the Latvian Theater received the annual award in the Best Director category for the productions “King Leer” and “Stone Nest or Niskavuori Women”, “King Lyr” was also awarded as the best performance of the season.
