A photo of what the screen will look like iPhone 13 leaked this week and seems to confirm what many speculate a few months ago: the new model should still bring the notch on the screen, much to the disappointment of Apple fans. Only it will come in smaller size.
The image was released on MacRumors’ Twitter after the Greek repair company iRepair provided them with what was supposed to be a photo of the front glass panels of the iPhone 13 Mini (left) with 5.4 inches (13.7 cm), the iPhone 13 Pro Max (right) with 6.7 inches (17 cm), and what would be the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro (center), as both must have the same screen size, 6.1 inches (15.4 cm).
The images show that the reduction in the notch (tab at the top of some smartphones where sensors are concentrated, front camera and Face ID, without occupying the display area) was made possible thanks to the new position of the headset speaker to the top of the device and the consolidation of some Face ID components. These changes had already been said by Ming-Chi Kuo, a technology specialist known for his contacts in Apple’s Asian supply chain, among other sources in the field.
In fact, this design was considered for the iPhone 12 models in 2020, but it did not come to fruition. It is also good to remember that the design of the notch has never changed since the solution was launched by Apple on the iPhone X in 2017.
Ming-Chi Kuo speculates that by 2023 the iPhone will come with a design entirely without notches or holes and a fingerprint reader under the screen, which raises expectations regarding this novelty. The housing, on the other hand, should remain in the same mold as the iPhone 12.
Changes go beyond the notch
More changes are still expected for the next Apple phones, as announced at the end of February.
The screens of the Pro models must come with LTPO technology, which supports high-level refresh rates, such as 120 Hz and up to 240 Hz, which will allow new experiences in images. It is this technology that Samsung uses in advanced models like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and to which Apple is supposed to be migrating.
For this, the Chinese BOE should become the main supplier of the panels You are for line 13 of the brand.
More news, according to rumors, is that the models should consolidate the end of the Lightning port (the cable entry for the iPhone itself), the return of the Touch ID as a sensor that will allow unlocking by fingerprint, the screen always on (feature that brings information on the screen all the time), cameras with a high level of detail and the inclusion of LiDAR technology for all models of the new line, not just the Pro ones. This last feature allows for increasingly professional photos.
Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 13 line in September, marking a return to the traditional month of launching the brand’s products. In 2020, there was a delay in the production of the devices and the new models could only be launched on the market in November, with a delay of two months due to the covid-19 pandemic.
