Today marks thirty years since Ayrton Senna died in an accident at the Imola circuit. As a tribute, FORMULA 1 Magazine presents a photo series of the most memorable moments of the legendary Brazilian driver. With today the legacy of Ayrton Senna.
‘No one can separate me from the love of God
Every year fans come from far away to commemorate Ayrton Senna at his gravestone. This photo was taken during the commemoration on May 1, 2019, 25 years after the great hero died in an accident at Imola. His grave is constantly surrounded with fresh flowers, which shows that he is still remembered by many.

Equaling Senna’s record
Here, Lewis Hamilton received an original helmet from Senna after qualifying for the Canadian GP in 2017. There, the seven-time world champion Ayrton Senna equaled: both drivers had secured 65 F1 pole positions in their careers. He received this helmet from the Brazilian driver’s family as a souvenir.

Memorial site on Imola
This bronze statue, in tribute to Ayrton Senna, is located on the Imola circuit. Thousands of visitors come here every year during the Emilia-Romagna GP and pay their respects to the Brazilian hero in their own way. Some do this by placing and/or hanging up photos, shirts, and flowers. Various attributes have been there for years, perhaps even thirty years.

Ayrton Senna Institute
The Ayrton Senna Institute was founded by Viviane Senna, the sister of the three-time world champion. The organization was a dream of the Brazilian to provide education support to underdeveloped areas in Brazil. This non-profit organization has been helping various areas in Brazil for thirty years. This photo shows Viviane with Prince Harry (at that time), who visited the organization in São Paulo.

SENNA, standard in 2024

This year a series about the Brazilian F1 driver will be released on Netflix. Watch the first trailer of the series here, which is about his life before the tragic accident.
