Rihards Dubra has written his new work for both soloists – the outstanding musicians of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra Marta Kauliņa-Pelnēna and the harpist Darta Tisenkopfa-Muselli. In honor of this fact and also of the author’s recent passion for the French language, the composition has been called the Concert pour Deux Dames.
This double concert is a new version of a previously written kokle concert. Even before the premiere, Rihards Dubra said that he had long wanted to turn a concert ever written for kokle with a chamber orchestra into a concert for harp and chamber orchestra. “The concert for kokle had become technically complex, so in fact few people in Latvia can play it. And I was sorry that this music, which the listeners have found enjoyable, is not being used right now. The long-term and very productive cooperation with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra allowed me to fulfill my wishes and, in addition, encouraged me to make this music a practically new piece of music, because in addition to the harp solo, there are also percussion instruments in this concert. ”
Under the direction of Risto Josta, the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra also performed the First Symphony of the Finnish introverted genius Jean Sibelius and one of the more well-known works of the Estonian composer Heino Eller – the symphonic poem “Dawn”.
But already on December 17, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra invites to enjoy a concert in the concert hall “Lielais dzintars”, where two other ladies will be special guests – the outstanding sisters Balanas. The double concert by Johannes Brahms will be performed by violinist Kristīne Balana and cellist Margarita Balana. Gintars Rinkevičs will join the orchestra’s conductor’s stand.
