The picket is organized by the association “Tautas labklājībā.lv”. The posters of those present read “No to an emergency”, “An emergency or a coup d’etat?”, “No to a police state!”. The participants point out that they do not see the point of an emergency situation, because it has been delayed.
The protesters behave quietly, simply standing by the government building. One of those who came plays the guitar.
Some picketers have face charges, while others do not. Those gathered observe a distance of two meters.
The order is monitored by two police officers.
As reported, the government plans to decide on the declaration of a state of emergency in the country from Monday, November 9.
Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) acknowledged that experts are preparing documents on the implementation of the state of emergency and support mechanisms for the economy. They are scheduled for review on Friday.
According to Kariņš, it is currently unknown how long the emergency could last. “If the government makes a decision, the duration of the emergency will depend on how well the country manages the disease,” the prime minister explained.
Asked if the government was already aware of any specific restrictions that could come into force with the emergency, Kariņš admitted that documents prepared by experts would be reviewed on Friday, adding that the aim was to do everything possible to minimize people’s contact.
