The “Big Kristaps” program can be viewed at the “Splendid Palace” cinema, while the retrospective program can be viewed online throughout the week – filmas.lv.
Until February 24, it is still possible to vote for the film that will receive the audience’s sympathy, but the closing ceremony will take place on February 26 in “Rīgas Cirkā”.
This year, 24 films nominated in the categories “Best Feature Film”, “Best Short Feature Film”, “Best Feature Documentary Film”, “Best Short Documentary Film”, “Best Multi-Serial Film” are competing for the “Lielais Kristaps” Audience Award of the National Cinema Award. and “Best Animated Film”.
The closing ceremony of “Lielā Kristaps” will take place on February 26.
The director of the ceremony, Mārtiņš Ķibers, says: “The ceremony of the National Cinema Award “Lielais Kristaps” will take place in the newly reconstructed building of the Riga Circus, and this is natural. The magic, movement and wonder of the circus have been present at the birth of the cinematographer, and it was here, in the Riga circus, that the first cinema screening in Latvia once took place. The ceremony will honor the symbiosis of cinema and circus together with the award nominees and laureates, so the audience, LSM and LTV viewers will be able to witness the levitation of “Big Kristaps”, the personality sharing phenomenon of the head of the ceremony, actor Įrts Krūmins, and a couple of magical “spectacles”.
The nominees for “Big Kristaps” will be judged by an international jury: director Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsen, chairman of the jury, director Edmunds Jansons, director and head of the National Film School of the Latvian Academy of Culture Jānis Putniņš, film critic, FIPRESCI member Kristīne Simsone and honorary member, actress Laila Robiņa , UNITED STATES).
The award for lifetime contribution to film art will be presented to cinematographer Alvi Lapiņa.
