The special event opens a new page in the history of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, because for two seasons this important position has been waiting for the best candidate, which has been found. The concert was attended by such famous personalities as former state presidents Raimonds Vējonis and Valdis Zatlers, patron of the orchestra Iveta Vējones, composer Pēteris Vasks, pianist Andrejs Osokins, chairman of the board of the union of Latvian theater employees Ojārs Rubenis, etc. The concert ends with a standing ovation.
Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski was appointed principal guest conductor of the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen in January 2022, becoming the first holder of that title in the orchestra’s 42-year history. In May of the same year it was decided that from 2022/2023 Peltokoski will be the artistic director and chief conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra for the 2018 concert season.
Shortly thereafter, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra also announced Peltokoski as principal guest conductor of the orchestra. In August 2022, 22-year-old Tarmo Peltokoski conducted his first cycle “Ring of the Nibelung” at the Finnish festival “Eurajoki Bel Canto”, in 2023 he is expected to perform at the festival again, this time staging the opera “Tristan and Isolt”.
Plans for this season also include concerts with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, the Orchester National de Toulouse Capitole, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and others. Peltokoski is also an excellent pianist: thanks to his piano virtuosity, Tarmo Peltokoski has received prizes in numerous competitions and has performed as a soloist with all the most famous Finnish orchestras.
In 2022 he received the “Lotto” award at the Reingava Music Festival, while in 2018 the “Pro Musica” foundation awarded him the young musician of the year award.
The Dutch newspaper “NRC Rotterdam” wrote about Peltokoski’s performance: “Eerie and breathtaking beauty that causes tears. Even writing about this performance gives me goosebumps. How he did it is a mystery, but the most beautiful concert of the year was the one in Rotterdam.Tamo Peltokski.Write that word.
At the inaugural concert, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy the LNSO 2022/2023. the bright and warm 2018 season score by resident composer Krista Auznieks, which is called “Grace”, the Fifth Symphony by Finnish symphonist Jean Sibelius, as well as the Fifth Symphony by English composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams.
