The total area of the factory is more than 7200 m2. It is a modern and energy-efficient production plant with a precisely and conveniently planned production flow, which ensures efficiency and high product quality. It is also a functional and comfortable working environment for more than 100 factory workers. In addition, a modern product development laboratory has been built in this factory, which will allow developing and improving new products in the range of the confectionery brand “Laima”, which can be enjoyed by families both in Latvia and elsewhere in the world.
The opening of the plant was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia Krišjānis Kariņš, Chairman of the Board of Orkla Latvija Toms Didrihsons, Executive Director of Orkla Group Confectionery & Snacks Business Area Ingvilla Tarberga Berga, as well as other invited guests.
“Laima” is a sweets brand rich in traditions and truly loved in Latvia, which is celebrating its 151st anniversary this year. During a century and a half, there have been countless significant events and developments in both the company and the confectionery industry. Today we are enjoying the fruits of our work, where the Orkla team has been working with our partners for the last couple of years to give Laima a new home. Everything planned so far in the construction process and development plan has been successfully completed, and with this new Laima plant we will not only turn a new page in the history of the Latvian confectionery industry, but start a new chapter, ”said Toms Didrihsons, Chairman of the Board of Orkla Latvija.
“Strong, export-oriented manufacturing companies are the foundation of our economic growth and the well-being of our citizens. Today I am really honored to visit one of such companies, opening a new factory of the entire favorite brand “Laima”. By investing in a new, modern factory in Latvia, the company “Orkla Latvija” has not only implemented another investment project in our country, but also created new jobs and in the future – additional revenue to the state budget in the form of taxes. This significant event is one of the vivid examples of the revival of smart reindustrialisation or production in Latvia with new capacity. I congratulate the company’s management and employees on the opening of the new production plant, which means both the guaranteed presence of “Laima” products on store shelves and the raising of the common welfare of our country, “said Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš.
The construction of the plant was started in October 2017, in October 2019 the rafters festival of the new “Laimas” plant was celebrated, while in January 2020 a symbolic time capsule was built on the foundations of the newly built plant as a message to future generations.
