Photo of Two Astronauts Walking on the ISS Successfully Captured from Earth

Telset.id, Jakarta – This rare moment was captured by a photographer named Sebastian Voltmer. Using the C11 EdgeHD telescope, this German photographer managed to take photos of 2 astronauts doing maintenance on the ISS Space Station.

Voltmer took the picture on March 23 last. From Earth, he managed to take a rare photo when the United States astronaut, King Chari and German astronaut, Matthias Maurer, left the ISS Space Station for approximately 6 hours.

The two of them traveled in space, wanting to install cameras and perform station maintenance and upgrades.

After taking pictures, Voltmer then presented the photos of the ISS Station astronauts to the German mass media. The photo was then published in Germany and went viral.

“I feel like I’ve just made a once-in-a-lifetime image. This is probably the first ground image showing 2 spacewalkers on the ISS at the same time,” he said. Science Alert on Tuesday (5/4/2022).

Voltmer wasn’t the only person capable of capturing astronauts from Earth. Voltmer’s friend Philip Smith also managed to capture a photo of astronaut King Chari while in space, precisely when perched on the robot arm of Canadarm 2.

Then on March 2, 2011, amateur photographer Ralph Vandebergh captured a picture of American astronaut Steve Bowen walking in space, precisely when he was on the Vandebergh robot Canadarm 2.

We often see photos of astronauts walking in space and are also published by NASA or the space agencies of other countries. However, Sebastian Voltmer’s photo is more valuable because it was taken from Earth, which is very far from space. (NM/MF)
