Comet Neowise, found very close to Earth from the first days of July, was first sighted in Colombia.
The image was captured after several weeks of preparation and follow-up by a planetarist at the Sergio Arboleda University Astronomical Observatory.
“I was monitoring him about two weeks ago at dawn, because he was out before the sun came up, but the weather conditions was very cloudy and I couldn’t take this shot. We had to wait for the comet to turn around, “said Raúl Joya, director of the Observatory.
The best opportunity to see it is next Thursday, July 23, 2020, the day on which it will reach its closest proximity to our planet, some 103 million kilometers away.
“ from this weekend until the end of the month, ”said Joya.

According to NASA, the interplanetary iceberg, which was discovered in late March in Mercury’s orbit, survived solar warming, and is currently approaching Earth as it begins its long journey back to the outer solar system.
