Photo News: Compete with Hollywood, Russia Makes Films in Space

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, KAZAKHSTANRussia launched actress Yulia Peresild (37) and film director Klim Shipenko (38) into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Tuesday (5/10/2021) at 0855 GMT.

Using the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft on a 12-day mission Yulia Peresild and Klim Shipenko will shoot scenes from the film ‘The Challenge’ on the International Space Station (ISS).

The launch was led by veteran cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov. If the mission is a success, the Russian crew will beat the Hollywood project announced earlier this year by film star Tom Cruise, alongside the US Space Agency (NASA) and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

Shipenko and Peresild are scheduled to return to Earth on October 17, in a capsule together cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky who has served on the ISS for six months.
