In a press conference of unprecedented recognition and respect, Jake “The Problem Child” Paul and Anderson “The Spider” Silva proved that fighters don’t need to exchange insults to advertise a match that promises to be fireworks. (photo by Esther Lin)
The pair sat down at the kickoff press conference on Monday to promote their mega fight which will take place Saturday, October 29 at the Gila River Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, live on SHOWTIME PPV, and which will be played in eight rounds at the catchweight of 187. lb. Paul and Silva also posed for photos with Paul’s brother Logan to recreate a shot the trio took 13 years ago.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, September 14th at 1pm EST and can be purchased on ticketmaster.com. The press conference was hosted by former BELATOR MMA and UFC world title contender and Silva’s rival Chael Sonnen.
The press tour that began Monday in Los Angeles at NeueHouse Hollywood will continue on Tuesday at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, with Paul and Silva taking center stage.
Paul has never hidden his admiration for Silva, an MMA legend who holds the UFC record for the longest title in the organization’s history (nearly seven years) and the most consecutive UFC wins (16) and has now passed successfully boxing. Silva announced his return as a world-class boxer in June 2021 when he defeated former middleweight boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a split decision that wasn’t as close as the scores showed.
Silva also expressed his appreciation for Paul and what he was able to accomplish in boxing in such a short time. Sports Illustrated boxer of the year 2021, Paul last fought in December 2021 when he recorded one of the most spectacular knockouts of the year: a knockout blow from former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in front of a packed crowd on SHOWTIME PPV.
Despite mutual admiration, Paul predicted the fight wouldn’t go beyond five rounds and pledged to get a spider tattoo if Silva won on October 29.
