Photo: “Invisible” house, which completely merges with nature

Man always strives to be closer to nature, and sometimes even the most daring ideas are implemented to achieve this. The house in the Norwegian countryside called “Villa Aa” could also be called such, built as an addition to a historic farm and respectfully integrated into the surrounding protected nature, completely merging with the surroundings, as it was built underground.

The historic farm building is located in a protected area in the countryside, not far from Oslo fjord in Norway, which has been inhabited since the Viking Age, writes the “Uncreate” portal. The new building in the farm complex, named “Villa Aa”, was built as a home for the next generations of the family and designed to adapt to the regulations of the protected area and the surrounding nature, especially because the building is used not only as a home, but also as an office. And so, following all the necessary requirements and the wishes of the owners, an almost invisible house was created, which not only fits in, but almost merges with the surrounding landscape.

The main entrance to the building is located at the end of a road “sunken” in the terrain, which leads from the parking lot, while the second entrance is from the side of the bright courtyard – down the stairs – and leads to the living room, which is also used as a gym and office. The facade of the building on the south side is almost entirely made of glass and sliding sections that lead to the outdoor terrace and garden.

The layout is designed in such a way that the living room, kitchen and three bedrooms overlook the wide landscape. Next to the master bedroom is a bathroom and a toilet, and there is also an office area. Skylights provide natural light in all these rooms.

The green roof on the top of the house will be used as an “upper” terrace, while the “low” terrace, which merges with the garden, will have two water bodies and a large swimming pool further on. Next to it, a smaller basin has been created to collect rainwater from the roof and other surfaces and planted with aquatic plants.

In the old outbuilding complex, the shed was made of concrete, so in the new building it is also used as the primary material for walls, floors, terraces, staircases, mezzanines and pools, while the columns and beams are made of steel. Wood with different surface treatments is used in the interior, and the exterior wood panels are made of cedar wood. The floors inside the house and on the terraces are made of polished concrete and organically connect the house to the garden and pool area, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside.
