Peace., With the photographic exhibition Sacbé. ‘Camino Blanco’, opened today to the public at the Inés Córdoba-Gil Imaná house museum, Mexico begins a programme of celebrations in Bolivia on the occasion of the 214th anniversary of its independence.
“It is also a special opportunity to learn about the work of one of the most brilliant photographers of contemporary Mexico, Javier Hinojosa, and also to learn about the career of Facundo De Almeida, a prominent museographer and curator from Uruguay and our region,” said the Mexican ambassador, Eduardo Sosa.
During the opening, before a large representation of the accredited diplomatic corps and invited personalities, in addition to Sosa, the national head of the Cultural Foundation of the Central Bank of Bolivia, David Aruquipa, the icon of Bolivian plastic arts Mamani Mamani and the lens artist Hinojosa also spoke.
Before them, the diplomat emphasized that the exhibition is an opportune occasion to thank Hinojosa and de Almeida, Aruquipa, Mamani Mamani and the teams from the Mexican embassy and the museum house for facilitating this crossroads.
The ambassador stressed that the exhibition offers an opportunity to present in Bolivia a unique, artistic and moving view of “Mexico, our identity and our rich heritage.”
“For the Mayans,” he explained, “the sacbé allowed cities and destinations to be connected, they were used for communication and transit; in another dimension, when walking along a sacbé, a path was traveled, and its passers-by did so while praying to gods and sacred figures.”
Expressing solidarity with Bolivia for the forest fires ravaging part of its territory, the diplomat hoped that this white path would mean “a new sacbé for all of us.”
“In fact, I must say that this sacbé has allowed the reunion of two talented cultural leaders with a common destiny: Facundo and Javier in the Bolivian highlands, so close to Mexican identity and syncretism,” concluded the diplomat.
With an outstanding career in the field of artistic and documentary photography, the work of this master of the lens with a solid academic background in cinema and the visual arts covers pre-Hispanic architecture and nature in Latin America and the Caribbean, and has received recognition in international exhibitions.
Hinojosa expands the boundaries of photography with a career spanning more than three decades and a unique focus on capturing pre-Hispanic architecture and nature.
Born on November 3, 1956 in Mexico City, with his attitude behind the lens he has left an indelible mark on the art world through his innovative perspective and his dedication to the visual preservation of culture and the environment.
