Meanwhile, in the comments next to the pictures, people continue to congratulate the director, wishing him a lot of happiness and getting excited about the beautiful design of the holiday.

Valdis Lūriņš is a Latvian director and actor. Born on February 4, 1951 in Tūra, Krasnoyarsk Krai, where his mother was deported.

Returned to Latvia after Stalin’s death, graduated from Riga 49th Secondary School (1969), graduated from the Conservatory Theater Faculty as an actor in 1975, then studied directing, staging a diploma thesis in 1983.

Already in high school, he participated in the Daile Theater performances “Motorcycle” and “Idiots” directed by Pēteris Pētersons, therefore during his life he considered Pētersons as his teacher, and also creatively continued the principles of “poetry theater” in the style of his performances.

Since graduating, he has worked at the National Theater, and has regularly staged performances at the Liepāja Theater.

In the second half of the 1970s, he started the tradition of Theater Days in the Dome Square, which has become an initiative of actors, gathering many spectators. Three years later, when the event became “officially” supported, Lūriņš left it.

Actor and director of the Latvian National Theater since 1975.

Already with his first independent work – A. Upītis’ production of “Spartaka”, which has become an off-plan work together with his classmates, Lūriņš has gained the fame of an avant-garde director and a protector of young people’s protest spirit. In many of his performances, this spirit of protest is related not only to dissatisfaction with limited human freedom in the conditions of Soviet ideology, but mainly to national oppression and the need to preserve one’s identity, the Latvian way of life. The most significant works of this period are A. Upītis ‘”Jeanne d’Arc” and “Mirabo”, O. Vācietis’ “The Desperate Field”.

Valdis Lūriņš is one of the few directors who is well versed in the language of poetry and poetic expression, at the same time, while actively working in the professional training of amateur theater directors, Lūriņš is just as familiar with the trends and mood of his time in the regions of Latvia. Therefore, in his direction, both the theatrical “Dog” of L. Stumbres and the poetic Ē. Remark’s “Three Friends”, the grandiose staging of “Kaupen, My Beloved” in Liepaja, the life-wise V. Belševica’s “Bille” in the small hall of the National Theater and both performances of Danskovite’s “Latgola.lv – 1” and “Latgola.lv -2”.

He also has three great performances for children – “Punktiņa and Antons” in Liepāja, “Emīls un Berlin boys” and “Momo” at the National Theater.

Probably, the most significant work of Lūriņš, which has reached the widest audience and created the greatest resonance, is the production of Z. Liepiņš and M. Zālīte’s rock opera “Lāčplēsis” outside 1988, which was one of the great artistic events of the Third Awakening along with the 1990 Song and dance festival.
