“In order to stop the increase in morbidity and protect people’s lives, today I have signed an order to declare holidays from 15 to 19 June, while maintaining the salary of employees,” the mayor said in his blog.
As a result, the long holidays in the capital will last from June 12 to 20, he added.
Monday, June 14, is a compensatory holiday in Russia, because the public holiday – Russia Day – is on Saturday, June 12.
The mayor’s order applies to all forms of ownership of companies and organizations that do not normally work on holidays.
However, this does not apply to institutions that are “critical to the operation of urban infrastructure” and defense companies.
New restrictions have been set for entertainment, recreation and catering places, the mayor said.
“It is forbidden to serve visitors at night in public catering places (restaurants, cafes, bars), as well as in nightclubs, karaoke halls, bowling centers, discos and other entertainment places. until 6 p.m., ”Sobyanin explained on the blog.
These restrictions will take effect from June 13 to 20.
Attractions, children’s and sports grounds, and other recreation and entertainment facilities will be closed in large parks and nature areas.
“In fact, you will only be able to walk in the parks,” the mayor said.
Sobyanin also urged that at least 30% of unvaccinated workers work from home.
Epidemiologists believe that now it is necessary to reduce the rate of spread of the virus, explained the mayor, and therefore this decision was made.
The largest number of new cases of coronavirus since the beginning of the year was confirmed in Moscow on Saturday, officials said. Infection with Covid-19 virus in Moscow has been confirmed in another 6,701 people.
The number of infections in Moscow and the rest of Russia has risen sharply in recent weeks. The vaccination campaign is slow, although nationally produced Covid-19 vaccines are widely available to the public.
A sharp increase in the number of infections has also been observed in Russia’s second largest city, St. Petersburg, which is one of the venues of the European Football Championship.
Russia recorded 13,510 new cases of the coronavir on Saturday, as well as 399 deaths related to Covid-19, according to official estimates.
