The invited guests of the premiere and the creative team both posed at the photo wall and lingered in social conversations before watching the film.

About the movie:

At the center of the film’s story is fourteen-year-old Jānis, a boy from Jelgava with “zubra” level learning achievements, who tries to be unnoticed by anyone. However, falling in love with classmate Kristine and accidentally acquired friends Death and Zombie irrevocably start a new page in the life of a teenager in Jelgava – you have to play in a group, listen to metal, need real clothes and eventually bring teachers and parents to tears.

This is a time when growing up will very likely be a shame, but it is just as likely that it will turn out to be the best period of life. The story of the film takes place against the background of the events of 1994 – the escape of prisoners in Jelgava, the illegal market of music recordings, the death of Kurt Kobein. The film was made in the studio of Juris Podnieks with the support of the National Cinema Center.

“Jelgava 94” is directed by Jānis Ābele, screenwriter Matīss Gricmanis, cameraman Aigars Sērmukšs, artist Aivars Žukovskis, producer Antra Cilinska. “Jelgava 94” is the debut film for a number of young actors: the protagonist Bruno Biteniekis, his screen love Elizabeth Swedish, friends Aleksis Tauriņš, Andijs Žuks and others. The film depicts young parents, teachers and other characters such well-known actors as Andris Keišs, Guna Zariņa, Ieva Puķe, Kaspars Gods, Māra Ķimele, Elīna Vaska, Jānis Jarāns, Kaspars Aniņš and others.
