PHOTO: Cesis is once again taking over art - the annual festival is open

As the organizers of the event opened, the exhibition of contemporary art “Raising closer to the sun” opened its doors, reflecting seven new works by large-scale Latvian artists. Artists Aija Zariņa, Miķelis Fišers, Andris Eglītis, Ģirts Muižnieks, Krista and Reinis Dzudzilo, Katrīna Neiburga and Vika Eksta participate in the exhibition.

At the same time, the exhibition “Whole” by Madara Kvēpa, the winner of the SEB banka scholarship in painting, can be seen at “Raiskumkrog”.

Meanwhile, in the courtyard of the Cēsis Contemporary Art Center on Raina Street, visitors have the opportunity to watch the sound and movement performance “Danse macabre” or “Death Dance”, the idea of which is composed by composer Edgars Mākens and artist Krišs Salmanis.

According to the organizers, the show will also be available live on the website “straume.lmt.lv/danse-macabre”.

Meanwhile, on July 31, in Cēsis St. John’s Church, listeners are invited to the concert “Heaven’s Clock”, where saxophonist Aigars Raumanis, percussionist Ernests Mediņš and organist Aigars Reinis will play.

On August 14, a concert of the third act of Richard Wagner’s opera “Valkyra” will be shown on the stage of Cēsis Castle Park.

The musical events of the art festival “Cēsis 2021” will be open to vaccinated or Covid-19 patients, presenting a digital Covid-19 certificate and identity document at the event venue. The exhibition “Getting Closer to the Sun. Myths and Rituals” can be visited by anyone interested, in accordance with the epidemiological safety requirements set by the country.

The festival will run until August 15.
