The idea for the theme is borrowed from Chuck’s 1937 collection of poems, Mirrors of Imagination “.

Chuck was a pioneer of modern Latvian, urban poetry, who still inspires creativity. On this night, cultural and artistic events invited people to take to the streets and look in the imaginary mirrors of 2021 contemporary artists.

In honor of the poet, a number of events took place in A.Čaka and Marijas streets, Ziedondārzs, places of Riga, which Čaks sang in his poetry.

Visitors to the “White Night” were invited to choose one of the walking routes dedicated to Chuck, listen to his poetry at the city’s environmental sites or watch the Dutch artist’s installations “SKRYF” and “NYX” write Chuck’s lines of poetry in sand, in which the poet confesses his love for his city. – For Riga.

Chak’s presence also reigned in the Spīķeri quarter, where a film program dedicated to the poet was prepared, but in the Spīķeri Concert Hall – the performance “The New. Chuck. Listener”.

Traditionally, “White Night” was unthinkable without attractive and appealing environmental installations. This year they could be seen in Bastejkalns, Esplanade and by the Mara pond. Those interested were also invited to visit an interactive environmental object at the Academic Center of the University of Latvia in Torņakalns to rediscover the joy of working together.

This year’s “White Night” was an opportunity to visit several projects of the Riga Summer Culture Program – walking along Elizabetes Street along Vērmane Garden, everyone could enjoy the interactive installation “On the Wave of Light”, visitors to Arkadia Park were addressed by the musical object “Peculiarity”, The neon text installations “Saying in the Neon. Riga” were on view to the Daugava.

“White Night” in Riga is part of the international project “European White Nights”, launched by five European capitals – Brussels, Madrid, Paris, Riga and Rome, and now cities around the world have joined the network. The idea of ​​”White Night” is to make contemporary art more accessible to the population by involving those interested in various art events one night a year.
