Caljan acquired the former mechanical workshop of Liepājas metalurgs in the summer of 2018. Gjanis Dradeika, CEO of Caljan, explained that during the 13 years of its operation in Liepaja, the company has outgrown the existing premises in the Liepāja business center on Kapsēdes Street. “For some time now, we have been researching the possibility of building our own factory in Liepaja, which would be adapted to our specific needs in terms of both size and layout. Assessing the advantages of the old” Liepājas metalurgs “mechanical workshop, we decided to buy and rebuild it. the necessary infrastructure as well as the building structures are in very good condition. “
In August 2019, Caljan entered into two investment agreements with the Liepāja SEZ Authority for a total amount of nine million euros and an agreement on building rights for real estate at 142a Brīvības Street, Liepāja, and began construction of the plant. The new factory was designed by the architectural firm “A-Projekts” under the direction of architect Agite Lieģe, but the construction was entrusted to SIA “Bukoteks”. According to Dradeika, the construction was carried out in strict accordance with the time schedule and within the planned financial resources. In the next two weeks, it is planned to move to new premises, partially interrupting the production process, so that it will be possible to work at full capacity in the new premises already in October.
Until now, “Caljan” has been working in Liepāja, in rented premises in Liepāja Business Center on Kapsēdes Street since 2006. The company manufactures specialized conveyors for the logistics industry, most of which are telescopic conveyors for mail. One of the largest customers is the US company “Amazon“, but it is difficult to name a place in the world to which the conveyors produced in Liepaja are not exported. If initially the production was designed to produce 30 conveyors per month, now 110 are produced and the demand is growing. The maximum capacity of the new plant is about 3000 conveyors per year .
SIA LSEZ “Caljan” provides a complete process from the design of conveyors to the finished product, and 99.54% of all production is exported. The main export directions are The European Union and the United States. The company currently employs 250 people from Liepaja. With the start of operations in the new production premises on Brīvības Street and the increase of production volumes, the number of jobs will increase. “There has been a successful and productive cooperation with the Liepāja SEZ Authority. The process of acquiring the mechanical workshop was not easy, and the support and active participation of the Liepāja SEZ Authority helped us a lot,” says Dradeika.
