“Despite the pandemic, it is a pleasure that the Gulf regatta will take place this year as well. As last year, it was not clear to us until the last moment whether sailing competitions could take place at all, Walter Romans, Chairman of the Board of the Maritime Sailing Association (LJBA).
He pointed out that in addition to Latvian athletes, teams from Finland, Poland, Estonia and Lithuania have currently applied for the competition.
Due to the limitations of Covid-19, the opening ceremony will not be available to visitors, but everyone was free to watch the opening yacht parade in the Daugava.
On Monday, June 28, the first stage of the regatta is planned in the water area of the Gulf of Riga and, most likely, the first start on the water at 11 a.m.
All other stages of the competition can be followed virtually online on the competition website “www.gorr.lv“.
On the second day of the competition, on June 29, you will be able to see all the starts of the fleet from the piers, when the regatta will take sailors to Roņu Island in Estonia. But from Roņu Island on June 30, it will return to Latvia and land in the port of Salacgrīva for one night.
The final stop of the regatta will be in the yacht club of the Estonian city of Pärnu, where the regatta will leave on July 1 from Salacgriva. In Pärnu, the competition fleet will land for two days and on July 2, a coastal competition or the so-called headwind distances will take place.
On the evening of July 2, around 6 pm, the winners of this year’s regatta will be awarded, the Latvian Open Sailing Champions and the winners of the Livonian Cup will be determined.
