“Songs in the style of pop, folk music, electronic music and even heavy rock have been submitted to the competition. Musicians are ready to take part in the national “Eurovision” selection, whose names will surprise every spectator and fan of the competition – an unexpected number of domestic musicians, singing actors, including compatriots living outside Latvia. Among the song applicants are also artists who have once represented Latvia in “Eurovision”, “says the head of LTV Children’s, Youth and Entertainment Agnese Strause-Kubliņa.
Until the end of this year, the entry of songs and performers in the Eurovision national selection television will be determined by the jury, assessing the song’s structure – originality, arrangement, message, compliance with modern market trends, as well as the song and contestant’s , personalities and past achievements in the industry, as well as the potential for future achievements.
The songs will be available for public evaluation in January, but the competition’s TV shows are expected in February 2022.
The aim of the song contest is to find a piece by a brilliant artist and popular music who could represent Latvia in the international “Eurovision” song contest (semi-finals will take place on May 10 and 12, final – on May 14).
As you know, in 2019, the singer won the Eurovision Song Contest Samanta Tīna and won the 65th International Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands, but was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the end of last year, it was decided not to hold a new selection competition, but to allow Samanta Tina to represent Latvia in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. As it turned out, the singer with the song “The Moon Is Rising” had won the last place in the Eurovision semifinals.
