The documentary premiered at the Sundance festival last January and delves into the accusations of abuse against Manson, including those of the actress and ex-partner of the musician, Evan Rachel Wood, who claimed that during the filming of a music video Manson “practically raped.”
Wood narrated that when he was 19 years old, he appeared in the music video for Manson Heart-Shaped Glasses. The plan was to show a simulated sex scene. But on the day of the recording she discovered that “it was nothing like I thought it was going to be.”
“We’re doing things that weren’t what was proposed to me… We had discussed a simulated sex scene, but once the cameras were rolling, he started really penetrating me. I’ve never agreed to that. I’m a professional actress, I’ve been doing this all my life; I’ve never been on such an unprofessional set to this day.”
“I was forced to perform a commercial sex act under false pretenses. That’s when the first crime was committed against me, and I was basically raped on camera.”
Phoenix Rising it also explores Wood’s work to pass California’s Phoenix Law in 2019, against abuse. In the process, Wood shared his story without mentioning Manson’s name. “Numerous women heard my story and knew exactly who I was,” he recalls in the trailer. “I realized I wasn’t the only one this had happened to.”
The musician addressed the allegations in a post on his Instagram account in 2021. “My intimate relationships have always been consensual with like-minded partners. No matter how, and why, some want to misrepresent the past, that’s it.” the truth”.
