ARIZONA- A public resignation heard on the Phoenix Police Department radio over the weekend drew attention to understaffing and the cost it is charging officers on duty.
On the Friday night shift, a Phoenix police radio operator radioed an officer multiple times without getting a response.

According to audio, Officer Mike Rine was about to finish his workday when he and two other colleagues were asked to work a second shift to respond to emergency calls to which he replied that he was going to resign.
The Phoenix Police Department has not commented on Rine’s resignation.
In a written statement they confirmed that, although they are aware of the situation at this time, they consider it inappropriate to respond to a “private” matter.
In an interview prior to this incident, the Phoenix police confirmed the lack of 238 officers in their department.
