Description

When Russia’s war against Ukraine began, Germany’s gas supply had to be put on a new footing due to the loss of Russian gas. Since then, LNG terminals have been built in Germany at record speed. They are now gradually being put into operation. LNG terminals are considered the most important measure to compensate for the loss of gas imports from Russia. A number of these stations are being built on the German coasts, where LNG tankers can unload the liquefied natural gas. Anna Sigrist and presenter Claudia Davies get to the bottom of various aspects in the program: Will the LNG plants secure Germany’s gas supply in the future? Are they possibly oversized? Are environmental associations rightly concerned about the harmfulness of the process of liquefying the gas? Are the LNG terminals a contribution to meeting climate targets? Can the terminals really be converted to import hydrogen as planned? How sustainable is that?
