Philips 24B1D5600 is a dozen names for a monitor that is definitely not ordinary. Manufacturer connected two in one, using two different technologies. The main panel is a 24″ IPS with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 px and a frequency of 75 Hz. But the other one is a vertically turned e-ink, as you know from e-book readers.
It has 13.3″, a resolution of 1200 × 1600 px and is finer than the main LCD. However, compared to it, it will display only 16 shades of gray, it will be slow, suitable only for reading text. But that’s what e-ink is all about. Philips has also added lighting, so the image on the electronic paper will be visible even in the dark.
The monitor has a stand that allows it to be positioned vertically, rotated and tilted. There is also an e-ink on a special joint, so you can shoot it closer to you.
It connects to the computer via DisplayPort or USB-C. The second connector can power the laptop, at the same time it turns the monitor into a four-port USB hub and adds an adapter for gigabit Ethernet. Speakers are missing, the manufacturer only added a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Philips has not yet specified the price or exact availability. In China, however, the monitor has been sold since autumn for 6,000 yuan (CZK 18,500 without VAT).
