The Taal volcano, south of Manila, Philippines, awakened on Thursday 1 July. The eruption generated a dark plume about one kilometer high. Steam and rock fragments were released hundreds of meters away, causing the evacuation of people living nearby. The latest activity in January 2020 released ash at a height of 15 kilometers and incandescent lava, affecting dozens of houses. The Taal Volcano is one of the most active in the nation, periodically hit by eruptions and earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Fire Belt.
