Eleven senior police officials in the Philippines have been asked to go on leave pending an investigation into their alleged involvement in a PHP6.7bn ($137.4m) shabu or methamphetamine haul from the property of a police sergeant last year. Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos revealed in a press briefing that the 11 were allegedly involved in an attempt to cover up the arrest of Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo. Three other personnel were also named in the allegations. The investigation was opened following the confiscation of nearly a metric ton of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu from Mayo’s property in October last year.
