Philippine Election Interim Count, Son of Dictator Marcos Wins

Manila

Son of a former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos winning in the preliminary tally of the Philippine Elections. At this initial tally, Marcos Jr. is well ahead of his rivals in the presidential election.

Reported from AFP, Tuesday (10/5/2022), more than 90 percent of the votes have been counted. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos junior has garnered nearly 30 million votes. This vote was double the number of liberal candidate Leni Robredo.

Full results are expected to take weeks to validate.

It is known, millions of Filipinos thronged polling stations (TPS) on Monday (9/5) to elect a new president. The son of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos is the favorite to win this election.

Ten candidates are vying to replace President Rodrigo Duterte in the election, seen by many as the moment that makes or breaks the Philippines’ fragile democracy.

But only Marcos Jr and his rival Leni Robredo, the incumbent vice president, stand a high chance of winning.

Since before dawn, masked voters formed long queues to cast their ballots at 70,000 polling stations across the Philippines.
