At the last minute, UEFA had to hire a new video producer and assistant for Dinamo Kiev-Rangers, a match in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League. The two video referees who were given were arrested last night while they were drunk.
Philippe Clement may have escapeda game full of questionable VAR decisions.
The Rangers coach visited Dinamo Kiev tonight in the 3rd preparatory round of the Champions League.
On paper, Pole Bartosz Frankowski was the VAR. But Frankowski and his assistant Tomasz Musial were arrested around 2 a.m. last night with a traffic sign in hand in the town of Loeblin (where the match will be held), Polish media report.
The two video referees from Poland were also found to be drunk and were detained on charges of vandalism.
The Polish Football Association has opened an investigation into the two referees. “We will terminate their contracts if the stories are true,” the association said in a statement.
UEFA logically removed the duo from the Champions League match and called up two others.
Dessers gives Rangers a good starting position
The match itself went without VAR blunders.
Philippe Clement was disappointed when his Rangers side fell behind 7 minutes before half-time to a goal from Jarmolenko.
But in the 94th minute, Dessers scored the 1-1 chance from close range.
An important goal for Rangers, who can finish the job in front of their own men at Hampden Park next Tuesday.
