Philipp Lahm rules out running for DFB’s presidency, remains open to Bayern Munich return

Bayern Munich legend Philipp Lahm has ruled out the possibility of taking over as the president of the German FA. The DFB has been in search of a president after Fritz Keller resigned from the post in April.

Lahm, who is working as managing director of DFB EURO GmbH, acted as ambassador of Germany during the bid to host the upcoming edition of the European Championship in 2024. Most recently, the former The team captain was touted as candidate to become DFB’s head by former Bayern president Uli Hoeneß. Lahm, however, cannot imagine taking over a responsibility of this magnitude.

“No, I have no ambitions to become DFB president,” Lahm said in an interview with Sport Bild (as captured by THE). “I did learn once: never say never. But I really cannot imagine it at the moment.”

While he may be out of DFB’s elections, Lahm didn’t rule out the possibility of returning to his boyhood club in the future.

“What happens later on, and whether I will take on an office at Bayern again, we’ll see,” said the former Bayern and Germany captain.
