Philip Morris wants to stop smoking cigarettes within ten years…

Tobacco giant Philip Morris, known for the Marlboro brand, would stop selling cigarettes in the United Kingdom within ten years. So says the CEO of the company, Jacek Olczak, in an interview with Daily Mail.

He says this is part of plans to phase out traditional tobacco products and replace them with less harmful alternatives, such as electronic cigarettes.

Olczak, who has only been at the helm of Philip Morris since May, wants his company to lead the transformation. In time, it is even the intention to become a completely “smoke-free” company. These plans also mean the end of the Marlboro brand, the CEO admits.

Two years ago, the British government also announced its ambition to make England “smoke-free” by 2030, and Scotland by 2034.
