SCHUBERT, HOSOKAWA

More than 70 years ago, eight members of the Berlin Philharmonic came together to form the Philharmonic Octet – since then the ensemble has performed throughout Europe as the orchestra’s chamber music ambassador. From the beginning, Schubert’s large F major octet was part of the core repertoire.

2020 was commissioned by the ensemble Toshio Hosokawas Textures, a contemporary echo for the same line-up. The bridge between the 19th century and the present is built by Schubert’s Moments musicaux, which the Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen arranged for the eight musicians.

  • Franz Schubert / Hans Abrahamsen – Moments musicaux (selection), arrangement for octet
  • Toshio Hosokawa –Texture
  • Franz Schubert – Octet F major D 803
