Heading into Week 2, there was reasonable doubt about what appeared to be an offensive shift for the Saints, as their Week 1 opponent was Carolina, an NFL team in the lowest sense. But after running Dallas out of their stadium, seeing New Orleans as a home favorite against the Eagles doesn’t seem so far-fetched.
What a difference a coordinator makes. New OC Clint Kubiak has the Saints on the move, using motion on 74 percent of their plays against the Cowboys, and using play motion nearly 60 percent of the time. The result is opposing defenses and an increase in explosive plays from New Orleans’ talented athletes, many of whom were handcuffed to a scheme that finished last in those categories last season. Rashid Shahid, in particular, thrived on Derek Carr’s forward momentum and fullback to push the ball multiple times per game. Add Alvin Kamara in the backfield and the Eagles’ defense faces a more dangerous offense than it looked when the schedule was released.

Playing without superstar AJ Brown, Philadelphia’s offense is under fire for the numbers to shoot for. The Eagles have struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks and have now gone six straight games without a pass rusher. Their run defense is one of the worst in the league, allowing 6.4 yards per carry, and their pass coverage isn’t built to handle the Saints’ speed. Fortunately, with quarterback Jalen Hurts, superstar running back Saquon Barkley, and an elite offensive line, Philadelphia has the tools to control the pace of the game. But they’d better exert their will early, as New Orleans has shown how quickly their new blitz offense can turn things upside down.
