In an effort to control a possible measles outbreak in Philadelphia, the vaccine will be offered free of charge for adults and children.
According to the Department of Public Health, so far there have been seven infections in the city of Brotherly Love and one outside the town hall.
Inoculation clinics are for everyone. Children can go to any of them by appointment by dialing 215-685-2933, while adults can go to three vaccination centers designated for the purpose from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1 :00 pm to 3:00 pm at the following locations:
- Health Center 3, 555 S. 43rd St.
- Health Center 4, 4400 Haverford Ave.
- Health Center 5, 1900 N. 20th. St.
The inoculations are free and you do not have to present identification, just proof that you live in Philadelphia such as a checkbook with the address where you reside.
The Department of Public Health’s recommendation is that anyone who has not been vaccinated do so as soon as possible, since the virus “is dangerous.”

Only people immune to measles can stay calm without opting for medical help. These are:
- Those born in or before 1957.
- Those who have already had measles.
- Those who have received two doses of the vaccine or do not have a compromised immune system.
- The virus lives in the nose and throat of those who are infected.
- If other people breathe the same air as those infected or touch an infected surface, they can get sick.
- A single sick person can infect dozens.
- An infected person can spread the virus four days before red spots appear on their skin.
- Measles can survive for two hours in the air after an infected person has left the area.
