The Philadelphia 76ers have started the season on a good foot, managing to have a positive balance in the early stages of this season. A month of October that has barely given us three games, but that has allowed us to see how the Sixers have managed to compete until the end in Milwaukee (against one of our great rivals in the East), win in Toronto to balance the balance of victories -losses and with the big win against the Trail Blazers at home. And there is nothing better than starting the season with a victory in South Philadelphia.
No luck in the season opener against the Bucks. But without taking into account that it is still the first game of the season, and also against one of the great conference rivals, the truth is that we were able to enjoy what the Sixers’ season is going to be in 2024. And basically the season a perfect harmony between Joel Embiid and a very excellent Tyrese Maxey, who with each passing day takes a step forward and establishes himself as one of the great stars of the NBA. And it is what Philadelphia needs to achieve its goals in the season of Nick Nurse’s new era.
Maxey finished the game in Milwaukee as the team’s top scorer with 31 points and 10-22 in field goals, with eight assists and two steals, which consolidated the Sixers point guard as the perfect partner for a Joel Embiid, who also shone with 24 points (9-21 on field goals) and with 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Embiid-Maxey duo was accompanied by 20 points from Tobias Harris, the Sixers’ third pillar at the beginning of the season. Despite this, the Bucks managed to win 118-117, although in the next two games, the Sixers regained lost ground.
And the Raptors could not twist the arm of the Sixers in Canada, thanks to two incredible performances by Maxey and Embiid, again well supported by Tobias Harris, to achieve the 114-107 victory.
Maxey and Embiid reached 34 points each, with 12-20 field goals for Maxey (who added 6 rebounds and 7 assists), and 14-21 for Embiid (closed the triple-double, thanks to 9 rebounds and 8 assists ), which were key in the victory and in recovering good feelings. Not to mention the 15 points (4-10 on field goals) from Tobias Harris, who never stops being there when needed.
But without a doubt, the best victory (or at least the sweetest) came in South Philadelphia against the Blazers. And the trio of Sixers aces did not disappoint, with Joel Embiid returning home with an MVP level, which he has boasted for years.
Joel Embiid finished the game with 35 points, and with a 12-22 shooting from the field, accompanied by 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Maxey finished with 26 points, thanks to 6-14 shooting from the field, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, and Harris scored 24 points on 8-11 shooting from the field, with 5 rebounds and 2 assists, for the victory in the opening game at home, 126-98.
But the analysis of the first three games of the season would not be fair, without the mention of Kelly Oubre Jr., who without a doubt has been the best of the Sixers from the bench. And he showed it from the first game in Milwaukee (finishing with 27 points to his name with 9-11 shooting from the field and 4 rebounds), continuing with his performance in Toronto (18 points with 7-17 shooting from the field, with 5 rebounds) and continuing at home against the Blazers (12 points with 3-12 in field goals and 3 rebounds).
A great start to the season, which undoubtedly invites optimism, just at a time when the fans need it, in this new era led by Nick Nurse. An era that aims to be the most brilliant of the organization so far this century.
