Many talented development studios are coming to Xbox Game Studios, which Phil Spencer believes will provide in the future a steady stream of great games.
The head of the Xbox brand touched on this topic during the Xbox Era podcast, in which he noted that the company has yet to hit that point again since December, as there is no “big game” scheduled for the current quarter.
We have a lot of great games in development. […] We want to get to the point where we will ensure a steady stream of great titles. There is no big production this quarter, so Matt Booty [szef Xbox Game Studios – dop. red.]and the ZeniMax teams want to achieve a situation where we have a great foundation for our platform and games that people can get excited about on a regular basis.
Game Pass for Xbox and PC is arguably a key factor in keeping the supply of games flowing. New items appearing directly in the subscription on the day of release are intended to encourage players to buy or continue subscriptions.
The recent acquisition of Bethesda (and the ongoing merger with Activision Blizzard) will further strengthen Microsoft’s offering. Among the noteworthy productions there will also be, among others Starfield and State of Decay 3. The latter title may turn out to be a gem, as Phil Spencer himself is extremely excited the course of work on it.
While Spencer’s words may seem a bit “hotheaded”, it’s worth mentioning that Microsoft was recently recognized as the best publisher of 2021 by Metacritic – with the overall average rating of games released at that time at 87.4 / 100.
