In an interview with Larry Hribe Phil Spencer shared his thoughts on the recently released Microsoft Flight Simulatorsaying that he tested the game on his newly built PC and was fascinated by the amount of mods available in the game. Spencer noted that Xbox has learned a lot from its content-centric Minecraft marketplace, and that having a marketplace is fundamental to games like Microsoft Flight Simulator.
“How can we take advantage of the same ability and unleash the creativity of the community? Go and create content that they can sell to players. It’s just great to see people build their businesses on video game content. ”
Larry Mushroom shared his opinion and remembered 2005, when the Xbox was already trying to create something similar. Spencer responded by discussing Steam and its inspiration from the mod community.
“We watched Steam have a good mod community and creators like Garry’s Mod and stuff like that. We are always trying to learn and this is part of our culture. “
Microsoft Flight Simulator has an in-game marketplace that features mods from both in-house and third-party content creators. These mods are sold after content creators sign up for the program and are provided with accurate statistics on how their mods perform in terms of revenue and interest.
