Phil Spencer believes Bethesda will be critical to Xbox’s progress

During the most recent release of the Xbox podcast, division chief Phil Spencer discussed the Bethesda acquisition.

Spencer mentioned that the final approval of the deal will take place in 2021 and everything is going according to plan. He really likes it. Microsoft is currently “not touching” Bethesda as they continue to do their job as the deal has yet to be closed.

Speaking of the $ 7 billion deal, Spencer confirmed that the business is doing well, profitable and growing.

He then mentioned that Bethesda teams will be “very, very important” to push the Xbox forward. He can’t wait to close the deal so they can start working as one company. He is “incredibly excited” about Starfield and other games, some of which have already been announced and some not.

Spencer believes Bethesda will be an “incredible addition” to Microsoft’s own studios. He’s looking forward to 2021 and Bethesda is “an incredibly important part of that.”

It will of course be interesting to see what this partnership between Xbox and Bethesda brings. At this point, we know Bethesda is working on Starfield, which is probably still a long way off, and The Elder Scrolls IV is probably even further away.
