Phil sang the song ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ by Chris Stapleton in the semi-finals and subsequently received a standing ovation from his coach Frans Bauer and Angela Groothuizen. “It is really ridiculous this, a ridiculously good performance. You would be completely mad, Frans, if you didn’t take this man with you to the final”, Angela says enthusiastically afterwards.

Phil’s coach also agrees: “I already have two fantastic ladies sitting on the bench, but then I look right in front of me and I think: ‘Wow, what a great performance’.” In the end, Frans makes the difficult choice to send one of the ladies home, and that is none other than former Eurovision participant Justine Pelmelay. “Yes, that final was so close and then you sit on that bench all the time and then you think: ‘This must be okay’, and then just at the last minute, unfortunately…”
