Customers at Apotek 1 can buy a maximum of one pack of the Jodix package with 100 tablets and a maximum of three packs of the pack of ten tablets, Apotek 1 informs NTB.
The wholesaler will receive a delivery of the medicine on Monday, which will be distributed to the chain’s 450 pharmacies during the week. A new delivery to the wholesaler is also expected this week.
– It is important that people do not mix Jodix, which is an over-the-counter drug with high-dose iodine that should only be used on the recommendation of the authorities, and dietary supplements with iodine, which are for daily use. The dietary supplement contains 225 micrograms of iodine, while Jodix contains 130,000 micrograms of iodine, says pharmacist Kari Skaug Fredrikson in Apotek 1.
The reason for the jump in demand for highly concentrated iodine is the war in Ukraine. On Thursday last week, Ukraine also declared that Russia has taken control of the old nuclear plant in Chernobyl, which is located about 130 kilometers north of Kyiv.
