The time of respiratory infections has begun. Vaccination can help to mitigate the course of the disease. Some pharmacies are also offering vaccinations against flu and Covid-19 infections this year. The low-threshold offer without regular waiting times like for doctors should increase the vaccination rate across Germany, says the Chamber of Pharmacists.
“And now in October and November is the best time for vaccination,” says Birgit Lauer, spokeswoman for the Bottrop pharmacists and owner of the Glückauf pharmacy in Kirchhellen.
Vaccination against influenza is recommended for people aged 60 and over, people with chronic underlying diseases, pregnant women and children with chronic respiratory diseases. In this case, the vaccination is free for patients with statutory health insurance. The recommendation for a corona vaccination remains for risk groups and is also free of charge.
However, not all pharmacies have the capacity or requirements for a vaccination. “The requirements are so high that most people can’t handle it,” says Lauer.
It’s not just about the required vaccination permit, but also the spatial conditions, hygiene regulations and of course sufficient staff are needed. Anyone interested can easily find out which pharmacy in the area offers vaccinations using the pharmacy guide on the Internet (www.apoguide.de).
