Pharmacists in Sept-Îles ready for COVID-19 vaccination

Vaccination against COVID-19 should soon be offered in pharmacies in the North Shore. In Sept-Îles, pharmacists are ready and eager to get involved.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, announced two weeks ago that pharmacies would be able to make their contribution in the fight against COVID. For Montreal, people can start making their appointments as of today, Monday March 15.

The service should then be deployed in pharmacies in Quebec but no one has a date yet. We will have to wait a bit for this to be possible on the North Shore.

Whether it is Accès Pharma (Walmart) or Pharmaprix de Sept-Îles, the teams are ready to respond to demand. “As far as I’m concerned, I already vaccinate clients for the flu or whatever. I also have another technician who is a nurse and another pharmacist who can also, ”says Adam El Bouhssini of Pharmaprix. “It will be up to the minister to tell us when we can start. We had to undergo specific training and we are ready. It is a source of pride for us to be able to play an important role. ”

Same observation at Accès Pharma, several pharmacists and nurses are trained for vaccination since in normal times they dispense those against influenza, shingles … Mirella Faubert has already taken the necessary training for vaccination against COVID-19 and other employees will follow her remotely shortly. “We are ready. When the time is right, we want to vaccinate 10 to 30 people per day, because one vial is good for 10 vaccines and can be stored for 6 hours, ”she explains. “We are very happy to be able to do our part.”

It will be the vaccine from Moderna that will be administered in pharmacies, because it is the least complicated to store. After receipt, it can be kept for one month in the fridge. This vaccination will be done by appointment through the site of the government.

The CISSS (Integrated Health and Social Services Center) is still awaiting details for this vaccination in pharmacies. There is no obligation for pharmacies to participate in this movement.

It will be a voluntary process. The ministry is preparing the deployment of the service and it is he who will establish the needs according to the progress of the vaccination in each region.
