Pharmacists in Morocco express their anger in a widely followed strike

This Thursday, April 13, Moroccans will have noticed that, as they had announced, community pharmacists across Morocco kept their curtains down and took to the streets to demonstrate.

Regarding the reasons for the anger, Dr. Walid Amri, representative of the Casablanca pharmacists’ union, is not in the lace. According to him, the pharmaceutical sector is today in a very bad position. And to continue that of the 12,000 pharmacists in Morocco, about 3,000 are on the verge of bankruptcy.

“This day of strike is a call from all pharmacists in Morocco, because we have been waiting for answers to our protest file for 10 years. We have been experiencing these problems for ten years, with 30% of pharmacists today in enormous difficulty. This means that we cannot expect more than that, ”he says.

Along the same lines, Dr. Amri explains that pharmacists expected the current government and the Ministry of Guardianship to listen: “Today, we are trade union bodies that defend the socio-economic interests of pharmacists. That said, we are now asking to meet, in addition to the Ministry of Health, the Ministers of Finance and Agriculture. Our expectations are enormous in relation to all these sectors where there are many stakeholders. Even the Ministry of the Interior, because there is a certain anarchy that is taking hold in the sector. There are a lot of problems on a daily basis and for ten years we have been waiting for people to listen to us, to support us so that there are changes in this profession. Unfortunately, we have not heard back and we have never been received, especially in the last four years.

Regarding the strike observed this Thursday, April 13, the participation rate is between 98 and 99% in Casablanca, according to the data provided so far, and in other cities such as Fez, Marrakech or Agadir, it is 100%. , affirms Dr Amri for whom this strike is a cry from the heart of all pharmacists in Morocco in the great hope of having their mission recognized at its true value: “So this strike illustrates a real cry from the heart since we can move forward in the interest of this country and in the interest of the health of the citizen and his right to access to medicines. Anyway, if there is no listening to our demands and our appeal, our strike movement will continue”, insists Dr. Amri.
