ANTWERP – Several students in the Antwerp student district have been affected by scabies. The disease, which until a few years ago hardly occurred and causes a lot of itching, has been on the rise in both Belgium and our country for quite some time. The ointment that is used against it is almost unsustainable due to the increased demand. Its effectiveness has also decreased considerably, because the scabies mite has become resistant to it. “I have never experienced this before,” says an Antwerp pharmacist who is concerned.
