Pharmaceutical companies have always been criticized for delaying or failing to develop appropriate formulations for HIV drugs. Internal documents of Gilead Sciences, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, show that it delayed the launch of a promising HIV drug in 2004 with the aim of extending the validity of its patents on a group of successful drugs, according to an investigation by the American New York Times.
