PGE Obrót warns against SMS messages with false payment requests

PGE Obrót warns against SMSs with information about the alleged debt, which, if not regulated, will suspend energy supplies. The company calls for prudence and caution.

“We ask our clients to be especially careful, ignore such messages and under no circumstances click on active links contained therein” – we read in the announcement of PGE Obrót, the company in the PGE Capital Group selling energy to end users.

As added, PGE reports cases of extortion and fraud to law enforcement.

“All cases of fake news are monitored by PGE on an ongoing basis, and sites containing a fake link are blocked” – it was assured. At the same time, company representatives remind us to always verify the information we receive electronically.

“Both the electronic Customer Service Center and the PGE eFaktura service allow you to check basic data at any time, such as the balance or the account number for invoice payment” – indicated in the announcement.

New cheat campaigns

In recent months, we have observed increased activity of fraudsters. Earlier, Energa also issued an alert against fake emails about unsettled payments. As reported, the messages contain an unsafe online payment link.

The finance ministry has recently warned against e-mails from fraudsters who impersonate the ministry or its subordinate entity. Recipients are prompted to complete a tax return form.

The data also confirm the greater activity of cybercriminals. The Financial Ombudsman said that last year he had received almost twice as many applications as in 2019 for intervention in disputes regarding unauthorized banking transactions.
