PGA: Austin Eckroat deprives Justin Lower and Carson Young of a first victory

Justin Lower and Carson Young were hopeful that a final round of 65 and a cumulative 23 shots under par would be enough for them to obtain the first victory of their careers on the PGA Tour, but Austin Eckroat decided otherwise.

Eckroat excelled in the fourth round with 11 birdies to post a 63 to win the World Wide Technology Championship and relegate his opponents to a tied second place.

This performance allowed Eckroat to complete the tournament 24 shots under par and to win a second tournament in 2024, after his triumph at the Cognizant Classic in March.

Eckroat started his day with five birdies and a bogey in the first six holes and he also had a series of five birdies in the space of seven holes in the middle of the day.

A bogey on the 18th hole made Eckroat’s end of the day a little more stressful, but his lead held up.

For his part, the day after a card of 63 which allowed him to take control, Lower did well again with six birdies and an eagle, against a bogey. His eagle on the 18th pennant, however, was not enough for him to win his first tournament at the age of 35.

Lower finished the tournament tied for second with Carson Young (65), while Max Greyserman (65) was fourth. Young was also aiming for a first PGA Tour title, like Lower.

Canadian Adam Svensson posted a final score of 68 to finish the tournament in 39th place.
