“PFM’s Franz Di Cioccio responds to daughter’s controversial book release and announces new record ‘The Event – Live in Lugano'”

“Of course I’ve read it. I mean, I’ve had a look at it, but I’m not interested.’ Franz Di Cioccio, leader of the PFM, portrays it rather than extending a hand. Daughter Elena, not even two months ago, published the book “Bad Blood” in which she told herself without discounts: she revealed that she has been HIV positive for 21 years, that she has had a complex life studded with abuse and mourning. “We don’t have relations with dad at the moment, everyone has gone her way,” she said, among other things. Difficult words, entrusted to a long interview with Corriere and also with the Hyenas, which they had a large impact and about which it is impossible not to ask the father, even if the occasion of the meeting is the release of a new PFM record.

“I can’t answer why I do not have anything to say – replies Franz, 77 years old -. Elena has a personal life of hers conducted her own way. Evidently with this book she wanted to become famous. If you continue to tell her, but you must understand that you are accountable to people, not to me, but he said things that are neither in heaven nor on earth».

According to Di Cioccio, «Elena has a conflicting relationship with itself»: «I have nothing to forgive her, but for me she wrote borderline things, she was wrong. Do you know who I am, I never leave my daughters on the street». His eldest daughter, Cynthia, is present at the press conference and intervenes: «I feel lucky and privileged for the parents I have had. Everyone lives their childhood and parents from their point of view, with their own path, and they are personal experiences. I certainly wasn’t a traumatized child.”

Everything else is music: on Friday the 19th the PFM will be heard again with «The Event – Live in Lugano»album recorded live last summer during the Swiss city’s Jazz Summer: «It’s thestart of a series of live albums – announce Franz Di Cioccio and Patrick Djivas -, we will decide to do others when we hear that the lineup of a concert was fantastic ».

In the case of the concert in Lugano, the occasion was the participation of the guitarist Matthew Mancuso and the organist Luca Zabbinitwo young men who brought lifeblood to the evening, taking part in a creative process which for the rock group, for over 50 years, has mainly taken place on stage: «We have a wealth of 6 thousand concertswe are completely dedicated to the public and we are like impressionists, we make spots of music, without looking at the genre», says Di Cioccio.

«Every night different versions of the songs are born on stage, almost improvisations. We have never made “Impressions of September” twice the same – says Djivas -. For us, change means keeping interest alive, it is a challenge with ourselves rather than with the public». The bassist retraces the joy of playing, in all circumstances: «I played with a fever, with a burnt hand, with a leg that had been in a cast for 20 minutes. you can be even dying, but then on stage you feel like a lion».

So their tour goes on without stopping even in the next few months, with lives already planned from June to September and the desire to continue experimenting: «Years ago we chose not to use computers during concerts – explains Djivas -, not out of snobbery but to have the freedom to do what we want. Of course now we are wondering if one day Artificial Intelligence will be able to play a concert with PFM, keeping up with what is happening on stage. Who knows, maybe yes».
