Pfizer Warns of Shortage in Antibiotics for Treating Syphilis and Bacterial Infections

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The American pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, has warned that the drug used to treat syphilis and other bacterial infections in children may be discharged by the end of this June. A spike in syphilis and other bacterial infections has hit supplies antibiotics which has thinned.

Reported Fox News Digital on Thursday (15/6/2023), in a letter to US health regulators, Pfizer said supplies of its drug Bicillin LA were expected to run out by the end of this quarter. Penicillin products Pfizer has been experiencing shortages since last April.

Pfizer said another similar penicillin product, Bicillin CR, is expected to run out in the third quarter. Bicillin CR is used to treat infections related to the upper respiratory tract.
